A key aspect of the development was the question of how realistically existing crash-test procedures represent the smallest babies. Although the “Zero Pro” is approved for children from 40 centimetres in height, Axkid went a step further in its testing: In addition to the standard testing procedures, three smaller dummies were used. This was intended to assess how protection could also be ensured for particularly small newborns, rather than focusing solely on an average-sized baby.

Axkid has also taken a different approach to weight. Weighing 2.5 kilograms, the “Zero Pro” is, according to the manufacturer, around 50% lighter than the market average. The low weight is designed not only to make transport and handling easier, but also to reduce the physical strain on parents during the first weeks after birth. This can be particularly relevant, for example, following a caesarean section. With the development of the “Zero Pro,” Axkid is therefore focusing less on current market trends and more on the specific requirements of the first months of life: protection for particularly small passengers and ease of handling for parents. The midwives named the new product the winner of the “Midwives’ Choice” award at Kind + Jugend.
