It takes Maxi-Cosi 19 plastic bottles to produce the first ‘Eco Care’ seat, called the ‘Mica Pro Eco’. These are turned into a material with the same soft, comfortable and breathable properties as other Maxi-Cosi fabrics. With the new seat, manufacturer Dorel is on a new track to reduce waste and conserve resources. For the ‘Eco Care’ material developed by Dorel, the plastic in the PET bottles is first broken up into pellets, then spun into threads and woven into fabrics. Compared with conventional PET production, the use of recycled PET bottles leads to 70% less energy consumption, 85% less water consumption and 75% fewer CO2 emissions across the entire production process. “Parents from Generation Z expect brands to be taking the lead in the switch to a more sustainable future,” asserts Robert Dresen, Marketing Director, Dorel Juvenile Europe. “We take this very seriously. We’re not greenwashing here or making generalised claims – it’s important that we all concentrate on what we’re supplying: premium products that offer the highest safety with a modern design – and more sustainably every day,” he continues. The company also announced that further child seats would follow onto the market under the ‘Eco Care’ label.

Safety, comfort and sustainability

 The new ‘Mica Pro Eco’ meets the highest i-size safety standards. It has ‘G-CELL 2.0 site impact protection’, the maximum level of protection with improved 3D impact absorption from several different angles. With its Easy-in belt system, it is quick and easy to load children into the car and take them out, while the integral FlexiSpin rotation function allows the seat to be rotated smoothly through 360° with one hand. With a seat reducer, the seat can be used right from birth and up to four years of age. ‘Mica Pro Eco’ is equipped with several reclining positions and additional cushioning, giving very young babies and children the comfort for a top-class sleep as they travel. ‘ClimaFlow’ ventilation elements and breathable fabrics maintain a comfortable temperature in the seat.
