The Fragrance Museum is located at Farina Haus, where Johann Maria Farina developed the world-renowned Eau de Cologne back in the 18th century. Images, furniture and objets d’art from 300 years of fragrance history coupled with interesting insights into the work of a perfumier are as much a part of the museum as a guided tour of the original vaulted cellar in which fragrances were already being produced several centuries ago. The Museum offers guided tours every hour (duration: 45 mins) in a variety of different languages; advance bookings are recommended (+49 (0)221 39989994). The opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 10am to 7pm, and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.

When your tummy rumbles
To ensure you don’t become fully reliant on fast food during the trade fair, we can recommend the Supasalad super bar, which has six outlets scattered around Cologne’s city centre. The home-baked paninis, freshly made dressings and quality ingredients for pasta and salad are healthy, appetising and quite simply delicious. The great plus: you can use a variety of basic ingredients, spreads and meat as well as add-ons such as beetroot, cranberries, mushrooms and chicken to create your very own personalised dish.

Strolling along the Rhine
After a hearty meal, you can bring your long day at the fair to a pleasant close with an evening stroll through the 40 hectare Rheinpark. Situated on the River Rhine between Deutzer Messe and Mülheimer Hafen (harbour), it boasts an abundance of beautiful flowerbeds and a stunning view of the old part of Cologne. Sculptures, water features and buildings erected for the German National Horticultural Show in 1957 turn this outing into an historical tour.
